Gamers

Anyone know any serious gamers? Well, I am married to one.  I know more about gaming and MMO's and zombies and FPS and achievements then I ever wanted to.  My weekend has been a little crazy because we planned a surprise birthday LAN party for my husband this weekend.  A LAN party is where serious gamers who usually communicate via headphones all game at the same location and still communicate via headphones.

The best part though was my house did not have to get turned upside down this time.  The LAN party was at my brother-in-law's bachelor pad where setup does not involve moving all the furniture out.

It is a weekend of non-stop gaming, little sleep, paper plates, finger foods, beer, energy drinks, and a world I am happy to just observe.

The interesting aspect of being married to a gamer is how it has helped me find common ground with students over the years, especially boys.  When they discuss various games, I actually know what they are referring to.

Later this week I am going to share a classroom management system I created last year to try and incorporate a gamer logic to classroom management.

I hope you had a great weekend!

  3. The hubby is a gamer and there was a beta (a testing) weekend for a new game and all I heard nonstop was game talk between him and his brother via headphones (different houses). All weekend I went to bed alone because of this beta weekend. (I am definitely glad it is now over.) I know where you are coming from though :)

  4. Actually, Guild Wars was one of the primary games played at the LAN because of the beta testing weekend. Beta was last night until 2am. I know all about betas, mods, raids, etc. Been married 8+ years - very few nights I didn't go to bed first. Some of us need sleep. Some of us only need coffee and video games, apparently. Lol. You get used to it, but being with a hard-core gamer (as opposed to a casual one) is a whole other way of living.
